About Kelly McManus

If there’s one thing I hope to do with my career in journalism, it’s write a true-life, first person narrative about an amazing trip to outer space.
In the mean time, I’m a Vancouver-based journalist currently specializing in arts and education beats with the North Shore Outlook newspaper (Black Press). Click here to read about my awards from the Suburban Newspapers of America, the Canadian Community Newspapers Association and the Ma Murray Community Newspapers Association.
Before working for Black Press, I wrote for The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Eye Weekly Magazine and Chatelaine Magazine, among other publications. I also worked at MZTV in Toronto writing scripts and speeches and designing exhibits.
I like Science Fiction. Can you tell?

I like Science Fiction. Can you tell?

I love writing about quizzical and remarkable people, places, and goings-on. From fashion to fitness, local entertainment to the residential garbage beat, my assignments have taken me everywhere from a chimpanzee sanctuary to the back of a dogsled to the belly of a tank – oh, and a delivery room. I watched a birth last winter. Wow.

I hold a Masters degree in English Literature and Film Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. A few things I like to do when not glued to a keyboard: rock climbing, snowshoeing, cross-country running, reading science fiction and children’s literature. Oh yeah, and I love Battlestar Galactica. Did I mention that? Neeeerrrrr!

Thanks for visiting me online,

Kelly~
